where are the waves

Well, the good old days of 4 to 6 foot offshore every day are over. We had a really good run of waves here - about 10 days straight right up to Dec 27th. Christmas day was quite solid and the following day was also quite big and very powerful. 27th was head high and clean as a whistle. Today there were quite a few people out surfing Tullan strand. Waves were mostly in the waist high range but super clean in the SE winds. Really good conditions for beginners.

We have just finished a promo video for surfing in Bundoran and it can be seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ik2z9vPxfpI
We have another video and a slide show of images uploaded also - we are still learning. If yiu come across any good videos please email us the link and we can put it in the blog for others to watch also. Young Sligo (adopted by Bundoran) surfer Aaron Reid was out training in Hawaii and showed us this video footage from his trip - just scroll down the front page http://www.surfsolutions.tv/

Pete has left for NZ and Oz so expect blogs from his travels over the next few months

Looks like being very small for the next few days but the end of the week is starting to look a bit more promising

Hi folks, it has been a good few days here this week. We have had decent sized waves every day so plenry of places have been breaking. Qiute big at the Peak most days - the left has been closing out a bit but the right has been good. winds have been mostly sutherly in direction and quite light. Christmas Day and Stephens Day look very promising.

Christmas is coming early

In case you had not noticed yet, the charts are forecasting really good surf all next week. Looks like it will go offshore next Monday and stay offshore for the whole week. Plenty of swell out there too so it should be at least head high every day. This is the third Christmas in a row with good waves so hopefully it is becoming an annual event. Christmas Day is one of those rare occassions that you get only local Bundoran surfers in the water as everyone elseis at home in non-Bundoran land.

Tomorrow morning looks promising for a while - could be big and clean.

Should get a few photos next week and get them posted before 25th.

Happy Christmas.

windy waves

Good morning from Bundoran. A bit on the windy side here this morning with some head high waves at the Peak. A few people out getting a few waves. A quiet weekend in Bundoran but there were some decent waves on Saturday afternoon. The Peak was closing out and only Emmet Doherty out on his SUP board. There was plenty of good music on over the weekend with the Single Street Choir CD launch on Fri in Marlboro House. All proceeds to Ozanam House. On Sat the Inishowen Gospel choir played the Bull and there was also a good gig in Mc Gloins in Kinlough with the newest Brian Sweeny musical incarnation. Looks like a big swell on the way for the middle of the week so some good secret spots that are not so secret should be firing.

nice clean peak

Hi there folks, some decent waves here this morning in the 4 to 5 foot range with light offshore winds. The Peak was small at first but by about 11am the swell started rolling in and the sets were getting bigger and better. About 15-20 people out but plenty of waves coming through. A few photos included. We are off now for some high tide barrels.

Todays waves, music at the weekend in Bundoran and the 25,000km cycle

Hi from Bundoran. A few small waves at the Peak this morning - mostly 2 foot but maybe the odd head high set. Very light onshore winds so a bit messy. Very cold in the water - some people reckon it could be due to fresh water run off. whatever the reaon it is time for as much neoprenen as you can get. Tommorow looks good - should be 4 foot and offshore. Big swell still brewing out there.

If you are out and about in Bundoran this weekend there is some good music going on. On Friday in Marlboro there is a CD launch of the Mirenda Rosenberg band. On Saturday the Inishowen Gospel choir is playing in the Chasin Bull - they played in Glastonbury this year so they are now going from big to better.

We came across some guys who are cycling from Alaska to Ushuaia in the very south of Argentina. A sister of one of the guys was in buying a couple of skateboards to take out the cyclists in Peru, where she is meeting them for Christmas. Anyway, they are cycling 25,000 kms for charity. You can check out there website by clicking here.

Clean weekend waves

We had some good waves hitting the reefs here on Saturday. Barrels were snagged at the lesser known reefs whilen the Peak was 3 foot and clean with some bigger sets. Daveth Fox got a few water shots which we will hopefully have up in the gallery soon. Check the one on the left out. Nice to see the sunshine but cold. Warmer in the water than on the land. Quite a few people in the water but enough waves to go around. The high tide session looked the go when the swell was bigger and only a few out. On Sunday the swell dropped off but Tullan still had a few waves early on for a few keen takers. Looks promising for the end of the week so keep posted.

We had the Dartry Venture Scouts up surfing at the weekend and they got some good waves on both days. You can see their photos in the Gallery.
